Insider Pointers for Finding Cruise Deals

cruise deals

Even people who have never set foot aboard a cruise ship dream of being able to sail away for at least a few days on a relaxing cruise vacation. And, it’s probably safe to say that most of these same people also dream about finding an amazing deal on cruise vacation packages that would make it possible for them to book that cruise. In this article there are several tips that can help you to find the best cruise deals on the market, so you can take your next vacation aboard ship.

Finding deals comes down to a combination of having a good strategy, being in the right place at the right time, and being able to take swift and decisive action to book hot deals when you find them. It is the principle of supply and demand that still rules when it comes to the rates. If the cruise lines have more ships out on the water than they are able to easily fill, then discount cruise travel deals start to appear. If they are enjoying quick bookings and people clamoring to get aboard, then the travel deals disappear and the prices start to climb.

When a cruise line brings a new ship or two into service, they suddenly have increased their capacity considerably. These days, the new vessels are usually in the “megaliner” category. This means they will drop their prices to fill up the cabins. In order to compete with the cruise deals that are offered to fill their new ship with paying customers, the other lines will often lower their rates at the same time. As well, former passengers often get the first notice of discount cruise travel opportunities.

One of the best ways to enjoy hot deals on cruises is to be as flexible as possible with the category of ship and the type of cabin you are willing to book. It is also a good idea to book your cruise at least 90 days ahead of the departure date. For the best discount cruise travel deals, it is advisable to book four to six months ahead because the rates are generally lower when the ship is far from full capacity. However, if you can be super-flexible about when you can leave, then you might be able to find super hot deals on last minute travel.

When you are considering the available deals, be sure to remember that the rates for cruises include all your meals aboard ship, your on-ship entertainment, and most of the onboard activities such as movies, live shows, gym usage, games and sports, and dance classes. Some people are more than satisfied with all of the food, fun and activities that are included in the “all inclusive” price.

Regardless of whether you paid full price or were able to secure great cruise deals, you will still have some extra costs that you need to know about. While most things are covered, you are expected to tip your servers and cabin stewards and most travel experts suggest that you plan on about $10 per day for these gratuities. Beverages are never free, so if you want bottled water, soda or alcohol, then you will need to pay for those as well. Also, plan to pay separately for special classes like pilates or yoga, for spa services, and any shore tours that you choose to take.

Ways to Find Wonderful Alaska Vacation Deals

April 8th, 2009 by ama | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Several years ago, you could find many low cost fares to Alaska. Now, such bargains are getting harder and harder to find, with demand for Alaska cruises going through the roof.

So how can you save money on your cruise? Does the possibility even still exist to see Alaska and stay on a budget? The answer is a resounding YES! You can still find great Alaska cruise deals — if you know when and where to look.

Many folks believe that the very best strategy to get cheap cruise fares to Alaska is to book at the very last minute. But while this method used to work reasonably well (and still works very well for Caribbean cruises, due to the larger number of ships in that region), it is no longer a very effective strategy for Alaskan cruises.

Alaskan ships often sell out far in advance for the months of July and August. Despite their higher cost, balcony rooms tend to be the first to sell out, especially on Holland America cruises. So if you are set on booking a balcony room in either July or August, your best bet is to book well in advance. (Alaska cruises can be booked up to 18 months ahead of their sale date.)

Of course, if you are more flexible about your sail date and/or your room category, you increase your likelihood of finding some great Alaska cruise deals.

The best months for deals are May and September, the beginning and end of the Alaska cruise season. The very cheapest week of all tends to be the first week in May, when prices can be less than half those of the peak season in early to mid August.

Of course you can also save by booking a lower priced room category. Cabins located on the inside of the ship are as much as 50% to 70% less than those located on the outside of the ship. Inside rooms have no windows and can be a little smaller than ocean view rooms, but they can be a wonderful bargain, especially since many people spend so little times in their rooms anyway.

Of course, if you have a problem with tight spaces then you might not want to book an inside room. Nonetheless, you can still find a great Alaskan cruise deal on an outside room. Rooms located on the outside of a cruise ship can sometimes have partially or even fully obstructed views, usually due to poles or lifeboats which are in the way of the view. These obstructed view cabins are often quite a bit cheaper than regular ocean view rooms. In fact, obstructed view cabins can be as almost as cheap as inside rooms, yet they have windows that admit sunlight and can help ease claustrophobia.

So there are still a number of ways to find discount Alaska cruises. Remember, even with rising prices, cruises still represent an incredible bargain. For less than the price of a nice hotel, they include food, entertainment, transportation, and, in Alaska, glacier viewing too.
